Practical Nursing Program

Practical nurses perform duties in the care of clients of all ages, newborn to the elderly.

Their duties include such things as daily care of patients, taking vital signs, applying dressings, and giving medicines.

Practical nurses may work in hospitals, clinics, health agencies, doctors offices, schools, nursing homes, on private duty, and in home health and industry.

The Practical Nursing Program at West Kentucky Community & Technical College provides the basic knowledge and skills for beginning practice as a practical nurse.

Classroom instruction is closely correlated with guided clinical practice in affiliating health care agencies.

The program's focus is on the scientific and social foundations basic to practical nursing and the care of individuals of all age groups with commonly occurring health problems. Graduates are eligible to take the examination required for a license to practice in Kentucky or any state of choice.

Download our program brochure and curriculum guide or refer to the KCTCS Catalog for more information about the Practical Nursing Program.

Practical Nursing graduates may receive credit hours toward an associate degree in nursing.
