Associate
Degree Nursing LPN-RN Program Apply to the Program Licensed
Practical Nurses must seek admission to the nursing program by following the standard
nursing admission
process. Once admitted to Nursing 101, they may seek admission to upper level
courses based on space available, and completion of required general education
courses. For further information, refer to the LPN-RN
brochure. Credit for Nursing 101
An LPN may receive nine (9) credit hours for Nursing 101 through advanced
standing. To earn this credit they must meet one of the following:
- Has
graduated within three years of admission to the WKCTC nursing program and holds
a current active unrestricted practical nurse license.
- Has
graduated more than three years prior to admission and verifies current employment
as an LPN and holds a current unrestricted practical nurse license. Current employment
is defined as one year of full-time employment as an LPN within the last three
years.
Credit for Nursing 202
For an LPN to earn credit for Nursing 202, the second semester nursing course,
they must either: - Successfully pass Nursing 202 with a grade of "C"
or better;
- Earn a passing score on the National League for Nursing
Accelerated Challenge Exam I (ACE
I ) and successfully complete the three-credit hour Nursing 198 - Accelerated
LPN-ADN Bridge Course. Upon completion of Nursing 198, with a "C" or
better, he/she will receive 6 additional credits for advanced standing and will
be admitted to Nursing 203, which is the third semester nursing course.

curriculum ACE I Exam The
National League for Nursing offers the Accelerated Challenge Examination (ACE)
to facilitate educational mobility by providing educators with an instrument for
diagnostic evaluation of the nursing knowledge of applicants. The ACE I is given
to licensed practical nurses seeking placement in programs preparing for registered
nurse practice. Only LPNs admitted to a KCTCS Associate Degree Nursing
Program and who have received approval from their Nursing Program Coordinator,
may take the exam. The challenge exam includes: foundational, psychosocial, and
medical-surgical content. Refer to the ACE
I brochure for registration and test dates. Students who pass the
ACE I exam may enroll in the Nursing 198 "Bridge" course provided they
have met all requirements. LPNs who do not earn a passing score on the challenge
exam must take Nursing 202. Nursing 198 "Accelerated
LPN-ADN Bridge Course"
An accelerated course
designed for the LPN/LVN who through competency assessment demonstrates the ability
to build upon previous learning and experience. This course focuses on the beginning
transition to the RN role, the acquisition of essential skills, the development
of critical thinking in the care of clients experiencing dysfunctional health
patterns of perception-health management, value-belief, rest-sleep, activity-exercise
and nutritional-metabolic. Upon successful completion of all components of the
course, the student will be admitted to NSG 203 and will have earned by advanced
standing 18 credit hourse in nursing. The "Bridge" course is
web enhanced and offered during the summer semester. The majority of the course
work is completed over the Internet. Students must come to class on orientation,
laboratory practice and testing days, which equates to 9-10 days. Some of this
practice and testing may be done at the home college with approval of the Professor.
